  1. PURPOSE/FUNCTION
  2. Drive Watchdog is intended to help you track files as they are 
  3. added, deleted, or changed including growth or shrinkage and by 
  4. how much.
  5.  
  6. INSTALLATION
  7. To install Drive Watchdog, run the "DWDSetup.exe" file included 
  8. with the "zip" package.  This is a standard "Install Shield" setup 
  9. program and will install or update required files as listed below 
  10. (See FILES REQUIRES/INSTALLED).
  11.  
  12. REMOVAL (we don't think you will want to)
  13. To comply with Microsoft WIN32 Standards, the program was designed 
  14. to be uninstalled by using "Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs" 
  15. method.  This removes files installed during setup. For details on 
  16. how to accomplish a FULL CLEAN UNINSTALL, please see 
  17. "Uninstall.rtf" included in the DriveWatchdog program icon group.

  27. This program is shareware, and may be distributed freely ONLY 
  28. under the following terms: The program must be distributed 
  29. Unregistered, unmodified, and including all setup files, copyright 
  30. notices, and other documentation as a complete unregistered 
  31. demonstration package for evaluation only. Distribution of any 
  32. registered version or any registration code(s) is expressly 
  33. forbidden and is punishable under U.S. civil and criminal code and 
  34. may violate international treatise.

  47. Following files are installed by the Setup program:

  49. In DriveWatchdog directory (selected at setup,  C:\Program 
  50. Files\DriveWatchdog\ by default).

  53. - DriveWatchdog.hlp (copyright 1998 by DWD Technology)
  54. - DriveWatchdogLicense.txt

  57. - Uninstall.rtf
  58. - Shortcuts (*.pif or *.lnk) to four of the above files in 
  59.   Start Menu/Programs/DriveWatchdog

  61. In the subdirectory /DriveWatchdog/Reports/

  64. - sample1.txt

  66. The following files are stored in your windows/system directory 
  67. and may be required by many programs.  Drive Watchdog requires 
  68. these exact versions (or later) and will add or upgrade these 
  69. files but will not overwrite later versions of the same files.  If 
  70. you intentionally prevent "Setup" from updating these files, 
  71. DriveWatchdog may not work.

  73. SPECIAL NOTE FOR SIMTEL DOWNLOADERS:

  75. If you downloaded this package from SIMTEL, and do not already
  76. have the required files, you may need to install "MSVBM50.DLL".
  77. Rule of thumb:  If Drive Watchdog does not immediately work, get
  78. the complete package directly from DWD Technology at:

  94. The following additional files are created during normal use:
  95.  
  96. Prof_X_.ddg, where "X" is the letter name of each drive.  these 
  97. will be created in the /DriveWatchdog/ directory.

  99. Addtional report files (and the included samples) are stored in 
  100. the DriveWatchdog/Reports/ directory.

  102. Memory Usage:  DriveWatchdog will typically use  5.09 MB 
  103. (including  3MB shared) while running and releases all memory
  104. while not in use.

  108. Known Issues:
  109.  
  110. On Some systems, the recycle bin may be handled differently because 
  111. of various utility programs.  In these cases, when an entire 
  112. folder is discarded as a single unit and is stored in a single 
  113. file along with its contents, Drive Watchdog may not recognize the 
  114. contents of that "recycled" folder as separate files, and may 
  115. respond inconsistently.  This will NOT affect Drive Watchdog's 
  116. ability to accurately monitor and report on user files or recycle 
  117. bin files that have been discarded normally.
  118.  
  119. DriveWatchdog can handle millions of files, but assumes that no 
  120. single volume (drive) will contain more than 32,000 folders, and 
  121. that no single folder will contain more than 32,000 files.  In the 
  122. very unlikely event that your systems exceeds these parameters, 
  123. please contact us if you need customized applications.
